I have been using Oruxmaps for many years for a wide variety of outdoor activities - MTB, hiking and motorboat and I am thrilled.
For use on the motorboat (small sports boat 6m) I have been busy for quite some time to find a solution that helps me to recognize whether I am 300m away from the coastline.
Which is important, because in some regions, e.g. on Lake Constance or in Croatia you need to keep your speed low (<8kn) as long as you are not more than 300m away from the coast.
With a Simrad chartplotter of a friend I have now found a very simple function - they name it "distance ring" (not sure about the correct wording in EN - in DE it is "Distanzring" in the IFU). One or more rings with a fixed adjustable distance are simply displayed around your own position. So you know immediately whether you are keeping the distance of 300m to the coastline or not. Something like this would be perfect in Orux Maps

The function is actually already almost there, look in interface --> cursor or something like that. But you cannot chose the distance, which is why I say "almost".
IMHO you can do better if you can stomach learning some GIS software. Then you can take a coastline shapefile, buffer it and get a line that is parallel to the coastline, then you can save it in gpx or kml format and import it in Oruxmaps. I suppose you can use it for geofencing too, but I've never done it.

@Maki thanks - finally I was able to test it as we are on our boat
The option can be found under "Einstellungen/Benutzeroberflächen/Cursor" and is named "GPS-Position Abstandskreise"

The radius of the displayed circles depend from the chosen Zoom-Level - 0,25 and 0,5km are available which is perfect for my need.
