Quote from: Sandy on May 17, 2025, 01:26:08 PMWelcome back @orux :) You've been missed already and concerns have raised because of your long absence. Hope you're fine. Just in case this whole project is getting too much for you, don't hesitate to ask for help - you're not alone. I'm sure it's possible to find several developers who could assist you when needed.

Regarding the new feature for search and rescue teams:
Probably the "alpine clubs" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_alpine_clubs are a good place to go. Maybe we users of this forum could contact the local alpine club of our country / region and ask if this is something they would like to test / use?

Thanks for your great work Jose, and all the best for you and your family.

Thanks for the suggestions.

What's most discouraging are the constant changes in Google Play policies and the implications they have. And the difficulty of adapting to the ways of responding, removing permissions,... sometimes it makes you want to give up.

The clubs are a good way to start. Let's see if I can test them with some well-known groups and see if interest increases (or not).

Quote from: Tronpo on May 17, 2025, 03:39:40 PMHello orux !! The organization of files in a tree is really useful and necessary.
I see that it fails in the mass modification or am I not understanding it well ?

It would be very interesting if you could apply something similar to virtual folders, such as being able to organize subfolders within folders, and even beyond that the same track can belong to several virtual folders, this is a long-time trend of users.
I mean without having to duplicate the tracks so that they are in different folders.

We continue to move forward!!

PD : The waypoint manager does not include the tree organization in the bulk modification.

Thanks!

You are right, there were a few things left to implement...

The tree structure with folders is a TODO task ;)

There is no rush for this, you have already made a lot of progress in these last three batches of betas to complicate it more.

A note about the climber sections, in the voice messages when entering a section the app says "entering a climber section" it would be very interesting that if the user edits and names the sections, the app said the name of said section, example "entering the section cuesta del muerto"

Best regards

Hello orux, a question about the folders of the organization in tree
Hello orux, a question about the folders of the organization in tree.

In the settings of Visibility of the route is not recognized by the app, is this what is expected ?

  • Quick segment editing.
When we use a file as a layer, when doing a quick edit to one of its segments, the non-visibility settings of the layer's segments are overridden.
This does not occur when the file is used as a path to follow, the visibility setting of the path is not overridden with quick editing of a segment.

Hi Orux and welcome back,

In dark mode, the text on the dashboard (computadora de viaje) would be much more readable with a black background instead of gray, creating better contrast with the white letters. The same applies to the weather forecast section that now is even too gray.

Would it be possible to implement this adjustment or add an option to set a black background, similar to the existing feature for graph backgrounds?

Thank you in advance for your consideration ;)

You know what? As I said here https://oruxmaps.org/forum/index.php?topic=44500.msg59643#msg59643 Google is right. I understand it's frustrating, but they are still right; if I don't want other apps being able to mess with the OM folder I cannot pretend OM to access other apps data. Other apps (Locus to make no names) just followed Google instructions on day one, using the private folder + the media folder for some stuff and had no problems since. Of course initially some users complained, rightfully so, and the developers just published a full file access version apk outside the Play Store (which is still required for license authentication) to ease the transition. Just do that once and forever.

The problem is that over a year ago, Google Play authorized the app to use the all files access permission. With that permission, the model was twofold: anyone who wanted to grant it that permission could continue using the old file system in the root of the storage. Anyone who didn't could use the app's private folders. The cost of adapting all this was significant. But after 8 months, in a simple update, Google Play said no, you no longer had that permission. I couldn't update, and if I wanted to update, I had to remove that permission. And I also had to update 100% of the users at once, all at once :) without any option of doing it progressively....

If they had told me the first time that they weren't giving me that permission, believe me, it would have saved me a ton of work and headaches. Others, not to mention names ;) may have more resources than I do to deal with these types of situations.

My complaint is mainly about the way they treat those of us who have spent our entire lives developing and bringing value to Google Play. I think I was one of the first to create apps for Android. That's useless. We are like garbage, messages that seem threatening, ultimatums,...

Hello!

You can tweak the backgroud of the dashboard items, and set a black background color, in settings > user interface > dashboard > dashboard controls > bottom button bar menu,

Hello orux !! The weather forecast needs better contrast between the background and the text to improve visibility.

A good advance to be able to configure the time interval in the forecast, and even better to be able to make the query in any location on the map.

Fixed + Implemented in beta2 👍

What I'm saying is that I wouldn't have even asked for that permission and just adopted the new system, it's just not worth your time. To be honest I was very surprised that they gave that permission to OM, when even file managers don't have it, it was probably just an oversight.

Anyway, I just installed the latest beta and it still asks the permission to access all files, at this point I suppose that dialogue box should be removed.

I know, I've heard that before. I wouldn't be surprised if you are dealing with chatbots.

I think the the measure tool background (when attached to the dashboard) should follow the above setting, instead it is a fixed half transparent gray. It's not really a problem but it would look better.

Hello, I install from 0 and it does not ask me permission to access all the files.

To be honest I was very surprised that they gave that permission to OM, when even file managers don't have it, it was probably just an oversight.

I was already comfortable without that permission, but after seeing several apps, some with similar features to OruxMaps, that had it, I requested it because, as always, there were many users protesting the switch to private storage.

I was also surprised. What I didn't expect was that after a few months they would change their minds, giving me no room to maneuver, no time to adapt, nothing.

Well, maybe I shouldn't have requested it, but it wasn't my fault I got it.

They could have given me at least a few months to adapt, first by warning me that the permission was expiring, then by migrating... They're already soulless.

QuoteAnyway, I just installed the latest beta and it still asks the permission to access all files, at this point I suppose that dialogue box should be removed.

It shouldn't appear.

What should appear is:

a) If you're an old user reinstalling and the app sees that the oruxmaps/ folder exists in the root of the public storage, it will notify you that you can move resources from there to the private folders within the app.

b) If you're upgrading from a version that had access to all files (which it won't be able to do now), it will offer a migration tool, from public to private storage.

I will check it

Hello @orux !!
Testing the rich text editor, I find this option for descriptions very interesting gives it a plus, plus being able to add photos gives another approach to the description.... Maybe a larger description box to see the whole picture (you don't need to :)
When we add photos in the description they are not exported (kmz), if I import that file again, the photos no longer appear in the description.
Is this possible? There is a file that supports the photo, I understand that it does not.

Best regards
