Hi Jose,

I hope you're doing well!

I'm reaching out as a long-time fan and user of OruxMaps. I actually purchased the official app on the Google Play Store many years ago, but for a long time now, I've been using and testing the Beta versions. I've become so used to the latest features and the workflow of the Beta that it's now my go-to tool for every trip.

I've noticed there haven't been official updates on the Play Store for a while, and I'm not entirely sure why that is, but I would really love to continue using the Beta app without any time limitations or "expired" versions.

Since many of us on the forum are dedicated testers and truly appreciate your work, would you consider offering us a way to "unlock" the Beta version permanently with purchasing? Perhaps via a PayPal donation or a direct payment?

I personally really want to support the project and keep using OruxMaps without possible time interruptions and I have no problems to pay a fee again, keeping also in mind that this is a BETA version.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into this amazing app!

So, let me tell you about my latest plans.

For the past few months, I've been working with some users and institutions who would have problems if access to all files were restricted, due to their workflows and procedures.

I was thinking of leaving OruxMaps GP as is and releasing a new version with the beta updates, OruxMaps NG, and continuing with future updates.

I'd like to be able to migrate users from one version to the other so they don't have to pay, but I don't have a way to do that. I know some users would understand, but I also know many others will complain. However, it seems like the best solution for those who want to continue working with the current version...

interesting. I would be happy to buy that NG version ontop of the GP version.
How about this: for users who have purchased "OruxMaps GP" and buy "OruxMaps NG", allow them afterwards to claim refund for their GP version?

Hello!

That's a good idea, I need to check the backwards restrictions on Google Play, I'm sure there are some...

Thanks!

Hello, I think there is a possibility that the developer offers as a possibility of refund or compensation a promotional code for the purchase of another app, in this case it would be the new OruxMaps NG. I will personally support the project in any way, to guarantee as much as possible the continuity and progress of OruxMaps

I don't need and I will claim no refund - it will be just a small contribution to the developer and to the development of an app which has made many of my outdoor activities easier and also possible.

For jerks, let there be refund.

There is another option. My music player of choice, Neutron, uses the google account to authorize the software but you can download the all file access version from the website. It's a bit annoying because you lose the automatic updates; actually you have to pay attention to prevent the play store app auto-update the software as you can't disable updates on an app per app basis. Still, it works.

My fear is that at some point google will force this thing further removing old apps from the store, so people should really embrace the new way as soon as possible.

Personally, I'd be glad to pay for it again.

Hi, from why i understand between the lines/comments above:
The potential new "OruxMaps NG" would not allow me anymore to store and easily access files in the subdirectories "mapfiles", "mapstyles", "dem", "tracklogs", "preferences" within \oruxmaps in the root filesystem of android?

I currently use various filemanager apps, as well as the option the connect my phone via USB to PC to access all files.

Mate [/cita]

Hello, whether it is a GP update or a parallel version like OruxMaps NG, they will not be able to use the "root" storage as is currently possible, mandatory by Google the apps have to use private storage. Whether it's a GP or NG update, the app's storage will happen to Android/media. This storage, although private, is easily accessible for managers and users, but has the drawback of not being able to share folders between apps. In a future OruxMaps GP update, users who currently use Android/data private memory will remain unchanged, it will be OruxMaps GP users who use internal storage who will use Android/media. This is talking about Android 11 or higher.
