MAPAS/MAPS / Re: Customize Onlinemapsources.xml

Add the code below to your onlinemapsources.xml in OM's mapfiles folder.
You can change the name and also the uid (but the uid must be unique).

<onlinemapsource uid="10009001">

BETAS / Re: Is beta version is still working ??
November 10, 2025, 12:46:12 PM
Quote from: mash-graz on November 10, 2025, 09:35:07 AMIt's really disappointing how oruxmaps is slowly changing for the worse!

For a long time, it was a really nice and powerful alternative to all the commercial products—not a completely free, open-source, and strictly privacy-compliant project, as I personally prefer, but still somehow acceptable—but now this seems to be more of a nostalgic sentiment from the past...

Hello mash-graz,
even though I can understand a certain disappointment, that is a very harsh statement. The current GP version - although it is over a year old - still works great and, in my opinion, is better than most or even all apps of this kind - but that is a matter of taste.
I have also mainly used the beta versions and I think it's a pity that certain functions and improvements (track manager, route planner ...) that I have become accustomed to are currently no longer available. However, that is one of the risks of using a beta.
I also wished, José (Orux) could find the time to be more active in the forum or at least could provide us with any updates on the status of development. But I'm sure he has his reasons, and I hope he and his family are doing well.
Nevertheless, the current GP version is still an excellent tool for a small one-time payment.

BETAS / Re: New beta 11.x version
August 11, 2025, 04:35:22 PM
Hello Orux,
it is obvious that the result of the 'circular trip' function is not a route which is exactly as long as entered, as it depends on the routing profiles and the ways in the area around the starting point. But in my case the route is always about five times as long as the value entered.
In addition to this bug, the circular trip can not be recalculated when you change the routing profile - it simply disappears from the map.

Best regards

Hello Orux,
I really like new weather forecast. Maybe you could seperate the days by a simple line or even better by the name of the weekday and the date for a better clarity.

Best regards.

I'm sorry, I should have been more precise: it does not toggle between show and hide in the top button bar. In the left menu everything is fine.

Quote from: kkolesar on May 18, 2025, 05:59:36 PMaccording to show lat/lon there is a minor discrepancy in menu where text in command line is not switched between show/hide.

The menu says 'show lat/lon grid' even when the grid is already shown instead of 'hide ...' (like the other grids).

BETAS / Re: New beta 11.x version
May 18, 2025, 03:45:08 PM
Hello,
I've discovered other new features which are both interesting and useful:

  • map tools - highest/ lowest altitude points (imho the centre and the radius should also be shown on the map)
  • overlay options - show lat/lon grid
  • weather forecast now useses the open meteo api. Now the forecast is not limited to the current position.

@Orux
In dark mode the text of the weather forecast is very difficult to read, especially for the brightest hours. Maybe you could change the background or the text color as it was in previous versions. (Tronpo was faster than me once again!)

As always: thanks for your great work!

ERRORES/BUGS / Re: Cannot import waypoints from GPX
April 02, 2025, 06:36:38 PM
I tried importing the routepoints with the the last free version (7.4.28) and it did not work. Maybe it worked in OM 8 or 9 but I never archived the apks.
If the function to import routepoints will be implemented, I think it will be necessary to let the user choose which points he wants to import: waypoints, routepoints, trackpoints or all of them.

ERRORES/BUGS / Re: Cannot import waypoints from GPX

Your original gpx contains routepoints (rtept) on everey change of direction and EasyGPS converts them to waypoints (wpt) (my test.gpx contains trackpoints (trkpt) on changes of direction and automatically and manually created waypoints). Up to now I never had to deal with routepoints so I don't know if OM had a function that converted rtept to wpt in the past. Maybe other routes from www.walkingworld.com contain waypoints instead of routepoints.
It could be useful to have waypoints for navigation following pathless routes with long straight segments but the route-/trackpoints should not be converted automatically as it could quickly clutter up the route. My test.gpx consists of 988 trackpoints on a length of little more than 2.5 km and you surely don't want to see them on the map.

ERRORES/BUGS / Re: Cannot import waypoints from GPX
April 02, 2025, 09:15:12 AM
Hello Growltiger,
your gpx file doesn't contain waypoints (I checked it with notepad++ and several gpx viewers).
OruxMaps creates two waypoints when you load the file - one at the start, one at the end of the track. When you save the track to OM's database, these two points are also saved - at least in my case.
What do you mean by "waypoint numbers"? The distance indicators? You'll find the option to activate them in settings - user interface - tracks/routes/lines/letter sizes - draw distance indicator.

I added a gpx with three waypoints for testing.

GENERAL / Re: OruxMaps and BRouter
February 22, 2025, 08:05:31 AM
Hi Sandy,
you can rename brouter's profiles to your preferred language with a file manager app. The profiles are stored in Android/media/btools.routingapp/brouter/profiles2

Two remarks:
  • In beta 10 the profiles in the route planner are sorted in a bit special way - first capital letters then small letters (e.g. Auto - Fahrrad - Zug - kürzester Weg)
  • after you renamed (or deleted) profiles you should only update your routing data with Oruxmaps and not with brouter as brouter downloads its default profiles with every update and you'll have them in your list again.

BETAS / segments of tracks can't be deleted
February 05, 2025, 05:33:06 PM
Hi Orux,

In beta 11 segments of tracks cannot be deleted in the trackmanager. Both possibilities do not work (tap on a segment and choose 'delete segment'; select one or more segments - burger menu - 'delete selected segments') -> nothing happens, nothing is deleted.

It works fine in 10.7.4 GP.

BETAS / Re: New beta 11.x
December 30, 2024, 12:10:36 AM
Hello Mandrake70,
you can change the paths of your GP version in 'global settings' - 'app storage' so that they point to the equivalent folders in 'android/media/com.orux.oruxmapsbeta/oruxmaps'. Be sure you granted OM GP access to all files.
I have been using the same data resources for both GP and beta for a long time without any problems but I made backups of important data regularely. If you have already experienced data loss it's even more important to backup.

Sad but true: with the release of OM 11 GP the posibility described above will be history due to Google's Play Store policy.

Best regards & a happy new year to Orux, his supporters and all OM users

Quote from: Lenz on November 22, 2024, 05:53:02 PMHi Tronpo,
I can reproduce it using this (maybe unusual) method:
  • I create a waypoint and add a photo from the camera folder -> OM copies the image into its picture folder
  • I realize that the position is wrong and delete the waypoint
  • I create a new waypoint and add the copy (from the OM picture folder) of the original photo -> I get a 0 byte file

This only happens when a photo already belonged to a waypoint.

After some testing and with the help of Tronpo here's the solution:
The problem only occurs when I select the photo with the app Simple Gallery Pro. When I select it via my phone's native file manager or CX File Explorer, everything is OK.
I didn't do any testing with other gallery or file manager apps, so I don't know how they work.
