BETAS / Re: This is an old beta version ....
May 14, 2025, 03:14:58 PM
hi, my little 2 cents. I've been an avid user of Orux since years, and in the past I've been a single-developer of a large application used by thousands people here in Italy. I can relate with Jose, I can understand it's overwhelming doing the app, bugfixes, releases, documentation ecc. ecc.

I also can relate with Jose since I have two children and one of them has special needs, which I need to care for (and that is the reasons why I always refuse offers from people "you're good at developing, why don't you develop this and that app...". No, I want my 'free time' for me and family).

Unfortunately for example Orux (10 and 11 beta) does not work well on my device (does not load map themes) but I do understand that my use case is so marginal that it won't be prioritized.

But since Jose is rightfully busy and Orux is large and complex and used A LOT, I'm asking to Jose if he had ever considered moving to opensource? He can still keep donations, but any developer could join in and support. Even myself, maybe

ERRORES/BUGS / No themes on HONOR Magic
April 30, 2025, 06:59:32 PM
Hi
I've been using orux since years, on Huawei, OPPO x3 x5 etc. I just switched phone, bought a Honor Magic 7 Pro.
I did the classic maps and dem downloads, and then downloaded elevate. Click on the site "setup on orux", orux opens and nothing happens. On the map styles there is nothing to select. On the file folder there isn't the elevate.zip file. Even if I download manually and load the zip in the folder (and restarted phone) there is no theme to select under maps forge the ewe. I'm stuck...

GENERAL / Adjusting height doubt
August 26, 2020, 12:09:12 PM
Hi, I started using Orux since a few weeks and the more I learn it (let's admit it, it's not easy!) the more I love it.

I have one question: after I make a hike, I come home and quite often I have to adjust the gps tracking because sometimes there are holes (gps not fixing, the battery saving switching off GPS...). So I add the points and follow what was my hike.
Then once I finished I do the "fix heights" (or adjust heights, mine is in Italian) to correct the GPS heights. There are three choices
- apply rounding
- use DEM
- use alternative online service

IF i use Apply rounding multiple times the total difference in altitude is always lowering. I understand that's because if you have -1,4 -> +1,4 -> -1,4 -> +1,4 on the normal hike the total positive is +1.4+1.4=+2.8, but if it simplifies to -1 -> +1 -> -1 -> +1 now it gets +2.
So the first question is...how many times the rounding should be applied and on which value (1,2,4...)?

IF instead I use the DEM files (sourced on the web and installed, i think they're the best), even more than once, the value is always the same and it's higher than the previous.

So for example the original track is +1000
-> apply rounding once becomes +900
-> apply rounding twice becomes +750
-> use DEM files becomes +1100

So...what is the best method to calculate most accurate hike positive altitude?

thanks
