Title: New beta 11.x
Post by: orux on November 20, 2024, 07:14:40 AM
Hello!

It's time for a new test, but be careful, this version has an important change, read before installing!

Google Play has become very restrictive with the 'access to all files' permission. It has not allowed me to update to version 11.0 of the app without removing that permission.

This implies important changes in file management, for those who used the public folders (the root directory of the internal storage or SD).

Now the app has to use the private folders again, the files used by the app cannot be shared with other apps/versions. Now the app uses the folder in Android/media/com.oruxmaps... The advantage of this folder is that it is visible to any file manager, which was not the case with the Android/data/ folder.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. At the moment that permission can be kept by the version of the app that is on Amazon, which is more tolerant, it has not put up any obstacles to uploading the update to version 11 of the app.

For those of you who have a lot of maps, and want to try this beta, I recommend NOT migrating the mapfiles/ folder and then, after the migration, from settings > app storage > import resources, copy some of the maps, to test.

Sorry about the problem, but those are Google Play rules...

____________________________________________

beta1:
-->New storage restrictions. Migration to /Android/media/ folders
-->Updated SDK to 35 level, some changes in UI, themes,..

beta2:
-->Brouter. You should now be able to use brouter profiles in their own folders (the app asks for permission to access files in the brouter folder)
-->Brouter profiles. You should now be able to set profiles (if they have settings)
-->Maps outside of app folders. It is now possible to have some types of maps (mapsforge .map and .pdf) outside of app folders, for example by leaving them in the root of internal storage/oruxmaps. From the app's maps list, '+' button, first option, you give the app permission to access that folder and that's it. To remove that permission, from the maps list, three dots > Remove folder permissions.
-->other minor improvements.

beta3:
-->solved some issues with vtm viewer
-->mapsforge .zip themes can be stored outside private app folders. Give the app permission to access themes folders in map list display '+' button

beta4:
-->solved some issues with migration and Strava login.

beta5:
-->solved some issues.

beta7:
-->solved some issues.

beta8:
-->solved some issues.

beta9:
-->solved some issues with image to map (map calibration from a image).

beta10:
-->solved some issues with maps list.

Please, report problems during the migration process! It is important for testing purpose, install this beta with the previous beta installed, to test the migration.

Hola Orux!!

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEOwIY6rSb6TIWLFlrJxNj0vIIBvEo_GCadwaiecZbAXvib0OppAF3JIjx2-6MXpTFEgckvcWxNPQh2WxHcPhn6MfipwwcS1ZIRN4j53DDZYx0VXSFVhiQmn8_0xFElDn1n9SDGo5_xWnvKP06YMvPsW3PW01bffOUmjm3Saw08T0nHmXr-l8Bu443DpTL/s1582/Screenshot_2024-11-20-15-07-59-07_99c04817c0de5652397fc8b56c3b3817.jpg)

Saludos

Hello Orux,
it is really annoying that Google's restrictions again and again cause problems for users and developers. So first of all I thank you for struggling with these inconveniences in order to provide this great app.

Now my first impressions (of course with the first problems):

The migration to the media folder worked well. I support Tronpo's suggestion to inform the users that the files are copied and not moved.

With bRouter I found two issues:

And another problem with the path to the legends:
I collected all my legends in a folder called 'legends' in the OM folder. Now I moved this folder to the private folder but in OM I can only choose files within the mapfiles or mapstyles folder and not navigate to my legends folder.

Best regards
Martin

  • OM isn't able to load the updates ('Error, OruxMaps can't write in that directory!') - which should be a logical consequence of not beeing able to use other folders.
  • The route planner doesn't show all brouter profiles - probably the same reason.

And another problem with the path to the legends:
I collected all my legends in a folder called 'legends' in the OM folder. Now I moved this folder to the private folder but in OM I can only choose files within the mapfiles or mapstyles folder and not navigate to my legends folder.

Hi Martin, brouter errors have easy solution, orux has much of the work done, only the last big step remains, the total integration of brouter in OruxMaps !! Grapphhoper offline is no longer there, it has the slot available and our beloved planner does not have to miss these wonderful advances that you have commented on.

Put your "legend " folder in the maptyles folder on Android media, and you're good to browse

Hello again, after other tests with a second terminal, I have realized that the app already contemplates the necessary space for migration, if there is no space it informs about it and does not allow migration.
Also at the end of the migration, the app informs that the original files still exist, in this way to be able to check that nothing is missing and if it is missing move it later.

Hi Tronpo,
thanks for your quick reply.
I'm looking forward to the full brouter integration.

I've already copied my (now) two legends folders into the mapstyles/mapfiles directory. I've just reported the behavior of OM not being able to browse other folders within android/media/com.orux.oruxmapsbeta in search of legends. I think this should be possible even with Google's restrictions. (Background: I used to have one folder for both 'theme legends' for vector maps and 'map legends' for raster maps.)

Best regards

Hello point 3, I clarify, brouter profiles are not copied to the OruxMaps/brouter folder, they are used directly from the brouter folder.
Can you update the brouter database from the OruxMaps/track/brouter settings?
Point 4 I don't quite understand what is happening to you.
I understand that you are talking about the pdf legends of the Mapsforge themes, right?

Saludos,

Not Mapsforge themes pdf, but Manage Map legend (1.jpg) I get aspect map (2.jpg) but not inclination map (and others DEM maps that I use)  and then I cannot visualize them

Ok, as you say (screenshot 2) that window is to assign the route that corresponds to each map and its legend, either by browsing to the pdf file corresponding to the legend or the url.If you already had this done before the migration, even though the files have migrated, the address of the file location no longer corresponds as it is now in another location (Android media).I have never seen in that window the maps of shading, slopes...Rather, I'm not sure about it.The offline maps don't appear in the list of offline maps? Have you configured them to be created? I can use them without problems.

Hello @Orux There is no option to update mapsforge topic list in the legacy interface, in the unified interface it appears. The new theme settings screen is much better than the old one, definitely more information.

Hello Orux !
A practically unimportant mistake or so I think.
The names of the Mapsforge Maps do not appear complete in the list of offline maps.

Hi,

The new beta seems to work great and I have no problems with the files being stored in the media folder.

However I have a small problem with uploading tracks to Strava which I also noticed on the previous beta I was using (10.7) - it doesn't matter what track type I select when uploading, in Strava it always appears as a "workout" instead of e.g. ride or run.

Hello check the integration settings, strava, there are you can configure what type of activity is the one that is uploaded by default
Also tell you that in strava it takes a while to show the type of activity received from OruxMaps, if you look just when the activity from OruxMaps has been uploaded to strava it is very possible that it always puts training, but after a few minutes for example 10, this is already updated and puts the correct activity, this has been happening for a long time,  I have checked it out

Thanks for the help, but I don't think this is the issue. After more than half an hour the activity type is still "workout". The default activity in my Strava settings is set to "cycling" which is what I'm trying to upload.

In any case, I've just tried uploading an activity using an old version of Oruxmaps (v7.4.23) and the activity type is immediately set correctly, so it looks like it's a regression in recent versions of Oruxmaps.

Also, I tried revoking Oruxmap's permissions to access Strava from the Strava settings so I could re-link Orux to Strava to see if that made a difference. However it wouldn't even re-link. I successfully authenticated with Strava and was able to press the "Authorize" button to link my Strava account, there was no error message but Oruxmaps doesn't show as an app in my Strava settings and uploads from Oruxmaps fail. It seems that Strava integration is broken in this version.

Hello, I have just done several tests with the beta5 version.
Login on strava : ok
Upload activities to strava:ok
As I said before, in the first instance the activity appears as training, a few minutes later the type of activity is already updated correctly.

As a novelty or anomaly I notice that I can upload an already existing activity on strava, this was not possible previously.
Best regards.

Question: I have version 10.7.4 GP installed on an Asus Rog 5s Android 13 device and a Motorola G85 5g android 14, I have over 30 gigabytes of maps and data, could I direct the GP version to read in the same folder as the Beta version so as to always have a single archive without duplicates? Can I create a mess? I ask because it happened to me in the beta 10 version, opening a map, after a few seconds the map was deleted leaving only the xml file and deleting the db and db.journal files. Thanks.

Hello Mandrake70,
you can change the paths of your GP version in 'global settings' - 'app storage' so that they point to the equivalent folders in 'android/media/com.orux.oruxmapsbeta/oruxmaps'. Be sure you granted OM GP access to all files.
I have been using the same data resources for both GP and beta for a long time without any problems but I made backups of important data regularely. If you have already experienced data loss it's even more important to backup.

Sad but true: with the release of OM 11 GP the posibility described above will be history due to Google's Play Store policy.

Best regards & a happy new year to Orux, his supporters and all OM users

Hi, Thanks for trying this. I've done some more testing and I've managed to get it to work. I think the issue was that I hadn't reconnected with Strava since installing the new beta and somehow it was using the Strava authorisation from my old v7.4.23, the permissions it askes for are different which might explain why it didn't set the activity type properly, unfortunately I can't replicate the issue, but it's not such a big problem.

The other issue I had about not being able to authorise with Strava is real, it just depends how I try to authorise. If I go to Global Settings -> Integration -> Strava -> Login then it works as expected. If I revoke the authorisation and go to Tracks -> Properties -> Upload to -> Strava -> Connect with Strava then I get to the Strava login page, but when I press "Authorize" it just goes back to the upload GPX window. If I press "Upload GPX" then it just shows the Strava authorisation page again, but it doesn't matter how many times I press it, it never connects.

Right the same thing happens to me in this beta too.
Another curiosity, without being logged in strava, from the track manager, the three lines (hamburger menu)
If you click on view activities on strava, you log in directly without authorizing strava

Raro, no?

Gracias,
Andrés

Problems / changes I've noticed since going to Oruxmaps v11.0.0beta8 from v10.8.0beta3.

1.  When I switched from version v10.8.0beta3 to version v11.0.0beta8 on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 phone, I now get the following pop up message box when initializing the Orumxmaps app services..., "Please 'Reset map list' in the map selector view to see a report".

2.  I have a lot of maps (42) in my OFFLINE "mapfiles" folder and in one of my sub-folders for OFFLINE maps (Mapsforge Maps) all (16) of my Mapforge maps now do not list all of the map file name for each particular Mapforge map file.  Some file names now only list the first letter of the map file name and some may show all but the last few letters of the map file name. An example of what I am talking about is my "AZ_NM.map", Mapforge Street Map, now only appears with the name as "A mapforge" instead of "AZ_NM mapforge" in the Offline maps folder.  The same file name change has happened to all 16 of my Mapforge maps to varying degrees.

3. Two of my Mapforge maps (...map) no longer appear in the Offline maps when I select "Switch map", but they do show to be in the Mapfiles folder when using a File manager app to view all of the maps in the Mapfiles folder in Oruxmaps.

4.  One other error message I now get is:, "Problems with some maps:  /storage/emulated/0/oruxmaps/mapfiles/OziExplorer     Maps/TX.map-->String index out of range:-2".   What does this, " String index out of range:-2" error message mean and how to correct it?

Any recommendations to correct these 4 above items, or does this seem to be a glitch with the new beta 11 version of Oruxmaps?  Thank you.

Buenas tardes,

11.0.0 beta9

X= Posición horizontal o longitud
Y= Posición vertical o latitud
X=  -595.000
Y= 4.315.700

A climb has to contain at least a part with an average grade of 3% over 500 meters. It can have a small decline (average grade of a part with a decline has to be at least -0.5% over 1.500 meters).

Hola,

Muchas gracias
Title: segments of tracks can't be deleted
Post by: Lenz on February 05, 2025, 05:33:06 PM
Hi Orux,

In beta 11 segments of tracks cannot be deleted in the trackmanager. Both possibilities do not work (tap on a segment and choose 'delete segment'; select one or more segments - burger menu - 'delete selected segments') -> nothing happens, nothing is deleted.

It works fine in 10.7.4 GP.

I noticed a difference in the "pinch to zoom" functionality between the old v.7.4.28 and the latest v.11.0.0beta10 versions: The latest beta continues zooming in and out after the "pinch to zoom" gesture is done, whereas the old version stops directly (this is what I expect / should be normal). Here's a video showing the "problem": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSNrWFH4uX8

Is this a bug in the v.11.0.0beta10 version, or is there an option in the settings somewhere that can be changed, so that the zoom directly stops like before in the v.7.4.28 version?

If I understand correctly what you mean, look in Options -> Maps -> Zoom settings, you should find an option to finalize the pinch to zoom, disable it. (I'm translating on the fly from Italian, so do not look for the exact words...).
